A Pirate Boo Bear, A Witchy Mom, and Autism

For years I’ve been trying to help my son who has autism learn to handle going out into public places. To make it more fun and cool I started taking him to the Zoo and Mc Donalds (inside) with BOTH of us dressed up in our Halloween costumes. My older kids now adults think I’m silly because I dress up too, I respond, “What kind of a mom wouldn’t dress up with their son, even if he is 18 yrs old now 🙂 Life is too short not to have some fun.

Power is out. Have to get Dustin occupied !
So I let him decorate the kitchen table early for his birthday that’s next week. Still No Power.
40 Balloons later….. YES. 40. Nope. No Power!
So I gave Dustin a marker so he could Decorate the Balloons. This is what he did (lol)

Welcome Back S.M.A.A.R.T.Moms! I’m so glad you’re here to share this very special moment today. Life with autism can be difficult to live with. Since our son, Dustin was about 15mos (when he was diagnosed with autism) we knew our lives were going to be full of ups and downs. However, looking back when he was NOT verbal, we really weren’t sure what was in store for his future. Would he be able to speak again? Show affection? Learn? Go to Prom? Or even to Graduate? If this is what you are going through Right Now….Feeling these Emotions and Asking Those Questions about OWN Child with Autism……This video is something S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom really wanted to bring to YOU Especially 🙂
So from S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom’s Heart to ALL of Those Moms, Dads, and Family members who need just a glimmer of “Hope”, Here’s a BIG HUG & Hats Off to You for being there Unconditionally for that Special Someone YOU Love with Autism.

S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom’s (MAY) 2014′ Mother’s Day Video Special: “Too Excited to Stay Calm….Dustin is Going To Prom !”

S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom

(Strong Mother’s Altering Autism’s Reality Together)

Hello S.M.A.A.R.T.Moms!
So glad you could join us this month. May is all about Moms, but this time it’s not just for this mom, but for our son Dustin who has autism. He is getting ready to Graduate from school and about to experience his “First” Prom Dance !  As a mom of a soon to be adult with autism this Prom is so much more special than I think some parents take for granted. For me, going to Prom with my older children was a wonderful experience. However, with our youngest Dustin; Autism made just the idea of “Prom” uncertain. So because of that I had to share this moment with all of my Sister  S.M.A.A.R.T.Moms. This month’s lesson…..Never feel Uncertain of your child with autism. Instead follow my lead and make the seemingly Impossible…..”Positively Possible”
BIG HUGS to Everyone & Have A  Very Magical Mother’s Day !  🙂

S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom (APRIL) Special: “Sometimes Going to The Park is The Key To FREE Therapy”

S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom
(Strong Mothers Altering Autism’s Reality Together)

Hello S.M.A.A.R.T.Moms!

With April being Autism Awareness Month and right around the corner…
I just had to bring you all this early (April)  Mommy Time-Out Online Video Special 🙂

“Sometimes Going to The Park is The Key To FREE Therapy

What a wonderful day to have a Mommy & Me Time-Out Gathering. I wasn’t planning on making a video while at the gathering, but after all of the AMAZING things I saw Dustin (autistic) do that was not typical, I HAD to tape this to share with other moms like myself. I’ve had Dustin in occupational & speech therapy since he was 2yrs. and have been working on his fears of ladders, crossing rope bridges, and just interacting with others. Well to my surprise, a simple visit to the park helped in the success of overcoming Dustin’s fears. Not that I’ve never taken him to the park before, but sometimes, some days are much better than others…..This was “THAT” day (LOL).  I hope this inspires you and makes you Smile like it did us 🙂 Enjoy ! BIG HUGS! S.M.A.A.R.T.Mom
